IIE DIGITAL DESK : Kolkata, Friday: Suvendu Adhikari was elected as the leader of the legislative party and formally chosen as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal on Friday. Moments after his selection, Adhikari delivered a powerful and symbolic message that set the tone for the incoming government, declaring that the administration would not revolve around individual authority but collective responsibility.

Addressing party legislators and leaders, Adhikari emphasized that the new government would function under the principle of “Not I, but We,” making it clear that there would be no space for personal glorification or unilateral decision-making in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s rule. He praised the democratic process through which the party elected its Chief Minister, highlighting that the decision reflected internal transparency and organizational discipline.

The Chief Minister-designate assured the people of West Bengal that the BJP government would work relentlessly to fulfill the aspirations of the state’s citizens. Referring to the guarantees made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the election campaign, Adhikari promised that every commitment would be implemented in a time-bound manner. He reiterated that the party’s pre-election “Sankalp Patra” would serve as the blueprint for governance and that its promises would be executed phase by phase.

Adhikari also addressed the issue of alleged corruption during the previous regime led by the All India Trinamool Congress. Before the elections, the BJP had released a detailed chargesheet outlining what it described as multiple instances of corruption and administrative irregularities under Trinamool rule. On Friday, Adhikari announced that thorough investigations would be launched into those allegations. He stated that retired judges would head commissions to probe corruption cases and ensure accountability. Those found guilty, he asserted, would face strict punishment in accordance with the law.

Special emphasis was laid on crimes against women. Adhikari declared that every reported incident of atrocities against women would be investigated by a dedicated commission. His remarks signaled a strong administrative stance on law and order, particularly on issues that became central during the heated election campaign.

The new Chief Minister set an ambitious political target. He expressed confidence that by delivering positive governance and effectively implementing the party’s commitments, the BJP would secure the support of more than 60 percent of voters in the next election. He called for rebuilding West Bengal with renewed vision and energy, promising a model of development shaped through cooperation between the state and the Centre.

Adhikari stressed that coordinated efforts between the West Bengal government and the central government would accelerate development projects and fulfill public expectations. He projected a vision of administrative synergy, suggesting that alignment between Kolkata and New Delhi would bring infrastructural growth, employment opportunities, and social welfare expansion.

Adhikari asked all newly elected legislators to stand and applaud Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a full minute, acknowledging his leadership and contribution to the party’s electoral success. The hall echoed with sustained applause, underlining the central leadership’s influence in the state’s political transition.

West Bengal prepares for a new political chapter, Suvendu Adhikari’s first address as Chief Minister-designate has underscored themes of collective leadership, accountability, and development-driven governance. With promises of investigations, administrative reforms, and fulfillment of electoral guarantees, the BJP government now faces the task of translating rhetoric into reality in one of India’s most politically dynamic states.
