
IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 18: The avoiding appearance three times, former Sports Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Arup Biswas finally appeared at Bidhannagar South Police Station. He reached the police station shortly before 10 am on Thursday. Earlier, he had avoided several police summons despite being called for questioning multiple times.
The Calcutta High Court had granted him protection from arrest while directing him to cooperate with the investigation. The case relates to an incident of alleged chaos during football star Lionel Messi’s visit to the Yuva Bharati Krirangan last December. Organiser Shatadru Dutta had filed a complaint at the police station regarding the event, following which an FIR was registered. Allegations of extortion and threats were made by Dutta in his complaint.
After repeatedly skipping summons, Arup Biswas finally appeared before the police on Thursday. Following the interrogation, the former Sports Minister walked out of the police station.
