The sudden change in weather has led to a noticeable dip in temperature. On Monday morning, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 22.7 degrees Celsius, which is 2.5 degrees below normal for this time of the year. The rainfall has helped dispel the discomfort caused by high humidity, offering residents a welcome respite.
The weather office has forecast that rainfall activity is expected to intensify from Tuesday, with thunderstorms and gusty winds likely in several districts. Hailstorms may also occur in isolated areas. Meteorologists predict that temperatures could drop further by three to four degrees Celsius over the next couple of days, keeping daytime conditions relatively pleasant.
All districts of South Bengal are expected to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by lightning and strong winds. On Tuesday, Kalbaishakhi-type thunderstorms are likely in Purulia, Bankura, East and West Bardhaman, Birbhum, and Murshidabad districts. By Wednesday, similar storm activity may affect Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, East Bardhaman, and Nadia.
Several districts of North Bengal are also likely to receive rainfall until Thursday, the weather department said. The changing weather pattern is being closely monitored, especially in view of possible hailstorms and gusty winds that could disrupt normal life in certain areas.
With pre-monsoon activity setting in earlier than usual, officials have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorm hours and keep track of official weather updates.
