The victim’s body was allegedly cremated at this crematorium in haste on the day of the incident, a claim consistently raised by the victim’s parents. Acting on these allegations, CBI officials visited the site to collect information and examine relevant documents.
The investigating team reportedly spoke with the then crematorium supervisor, staff responsible for conducting the cremation, and officials of the local municipality. The officials carefully reviewed the entire procedural chain followed from the arrival of the body at the crematorium to the completion of the last rites.
The investigators also scrutinised the crematorium’s register book and certificates related to the cremation process to verify whether proper legal and administrative procedures were followed in accordance with the rules.
It is noteworthy that since the beginning of the RG Kar case, the victim’s family has alleged that police and administrative authorities acted in undue haste by bringing the body to the Panihati crematorium and completing the cremation process quickly. The family has questioned why the last rites were conducted so urgently despite their presence and consent, and whether there was any attempt to tamper with or destroy evidence.
The CBI is now examining whether proper protocols were followed and whether any procedural irregularities occurred during the handling of the body. Investigators are also reviewing CCTV footage from the crematorium along with official records from that period to identify the roles of individuals involved in the entire process.
