IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 19: The Trinamool Congress over the control of the party’s funds worth several hundred crores, amid an ongoing power struggle regarding who will hold the reins of the organisation. In this backdrop, MLAs loyal to dissident leader Ritabrata Bandyopadhyay have approached the police demanding an immediate freeze on all financial transactions from the party’s bank accounts.

Several legislators belonging to the Ritabrata camp reached the concerned police station under the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate on Thursday night and submitted a written complaint. The complaint reportedly included details of those bank accounts where the Trinamool Congress’s party funds are currently deposited.

The MLAs have argued that considering the present political uncertainty and the serious differences over leadership within the party, all such accounts should be temporarily frozen and all financial transactions should be halted until the dispute is resolved.

The MLAs supporting Ritabrata Bandyopadhyay claimed themselves to be the “real representatives” of the Trinamool Congress. They expressed apprehension that the existing internal situation could be misused by others to make unauthorized use of the party’s financial resources.

The development has further intensified the internal conflict within the party, with the dispute now extending beyond organisational control to the management and security of the party’s substantial financial assets. The police are expected to examine the complaint and decide on the appropriate course of action based on legal and administrative procedures.
