IIE DIGITAL DESK : Kolkata, May 23: The government-organised Rozgar Mela was held at Sealdah on Saturday, where senior BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari was present along with Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar. Speaking at the event, Suvendu Adhikari strongly criticised the recruitment corruption scandals in West Bengal and said that the state’s image had suffered badly because of irregularities in the appointment process.

Addressing the gathering at the Rozgar Mela in Sealdah, Suvendu Adhikari said, “Our state has earned a bad reputation because of recruitment corruption. There were huge expectations from West Bengal, but everything has been destroyed over the last few years. West Bengal must come out of this damaged image.”

Adhikari also made several important announcements regarding the recruitment process in the state. He stated that a new law related to recruitment would be introduced in the next session of the Assembly. According to him, efforts are being made to fulfil the dreams of the younger generation by ensuring a more transparent and fair recruitment system.

The BJP leader also expressed dissatisfaction over the condition of examination centres in the state. He claimed that the examination venues in West Bengal had become “corrupted,” because of which Railway recruitment examinations were not being conducted in the state. His remarks were seen as a sharp attack on the present system of conducting competitive examinations in West Bengal.

The Sealdah Rozgar Mela, Suvendu Adhikari praised the initiatives taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding employment generation and transparent recruitment. He said, “The Prime Minister is providing deserving and meritorious candidates with job opportunities through a transparent system. His sense of responsibility is appreciated everywhere.”

Adhikari also raised concerns regarding the alleged OMR sheet corruption in recruitment examinations. He stated that collecting carbon copies along with OMR sheets was a bad practice and added that every candidate should receive a copy of their OMR sheet for transparency. He further said that oral examination marks should be reduced to some extent so that recruitment in the state can be conducted more fairly and transparently.

The statements made by Suvendu Adhikari at the Rozgar Mela are expected to intensify the political debate over recruitment corruption and transparency in government jobs in West Bengal.
