The accused were brought to Kolkata following their arrest and were interrogated overnight at Bhawani Bhavan by investigators.
The three suspects are professional shooters who allegedly carried out the killing of Chandranath Rath. They are scheduled to be produced before the Barasat court on Monday. A Special Investigation Team was constituted to probe the high-profile murder, and officers have been conducting an intensive investigation to identify all those involved in the conspiracy.
Investigators reportedly tracked the accused through a crucial digital trail. During the probe, officials received information that the assailants had made a payment at the Bali toll plaza using a UPI transaction. This digital transaction provided a significant lead, enabling investigators to trace their movement and ultimately reach Uttar Pradesh.
Police sources said that after committing the murder, the accused fled to Uttar Pradesh, where they went into hiding. Acting on intelligence inputs and technical evidence, the investigation team conducted operations in the state and apprehended the three sharpshooters.
Authorities are now focusing on uncovering the larger conspiracy behind the killing. Investigators are examining who may have hired the shooters and whether the murder was carried out on a contract basis. The possibility of a “supari” or contract killing is being closely examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
The case has generated considerable political and public attention in West Bengal, given Chandranath Rath’s association with Suvendu Adhikari. Officials have stated that further details will emerge as the interrogation progresses and additional evidence is analyzed.
