IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 16: The monsoon has officially entered South Bengal, rainfall activity remains weak across the region. Only scattered spells of light to moderate rain have been recorded so far, with no significant change in temperature conditions.

The Alipore Meteorological Department, South Bengal is expected to experience scattered light to moderate rainfall over the next few days. Districts such as Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, Purulia, and Bankura are likely to receive comparatively more rain, with chances of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in these areas.

Meteorologists have attributed the weak rainfall activity to the sluggish progression of the south-west monsoon winds, which has prevented the development of any heavy rain system in the southern part of the state. As a result, there is currently no forecast of heavy rainfall in South Bengal.

Kolkata and surrounding regions, only light showers are expected in the coming days, with no significant relief from humidity or temperature conditions.

North Bengal is likely to witness heavy rainfall over the next week. The region is expected to receive sustained rain activity, marking a clear difference in monsoon intensity between the northern and southern parts of the state.
