
IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 18: The budget session of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly began with the address of Governor R. N. Ravi. He stated that this year’s budget session will be broadcast live, the new state government will ensure security, extortion and corruption will be stopped, and a zero-tolerance policy will be followed in cases of violence against women.
This is the first full budget to be presented after the change of government in the state. The session began on Thursday afternoon with the Governor’s speech in the Assembly. On this occasion, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta, along with other cabinet members, were present in the House. The budget will be presented on June 22, and the session will continue until June 25. The Governor also said in his address that no form of threat culture will be tolerated.
In his inaugural speech of the day’s session, Governor R. N. Ravi highly praised the state government. He highlighted the government’s positive role in various areas including demographic changes, extortion, violence, women’s safety issues, and illegal evictions. The Governor’s speech also carried a message of “fear out, trust in.”
