IIE DIGITAL DESK : June 30, 2026 | Mathura, Uttar Pradesh : The least four passengers were killed and 19 others sustained serious injuries after a private passenger bus crashed into the rear of a trailer on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district during the early hours of Tuesday. The devastating accident occurred on one of the country's busiest expressways and triggered an immediate emergency response from the police and local administration.

The accident took place at around 3:30 a.m. near the Raya police station area when a private Volvo bus travelling from Agra to Noida collided with the rear of a trailer loaded with gravel. Preliminary investigations indicate that the bus was travelling at a high speed, and the driver reportedly failed to maintain control of the vehicle before the collision.

The impact of the crash was severe, completely crushing the front portion of the bus and trapping several passengers inside. Emergency services, police personnel, and local authorities rushed to the scene immediately after receiving information about the accident and launched rescue operations to evacuate the injured passengers.

Mathura Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Kumar said that the private bus involved in the accident was registered in Bihar, while the trailer belonged to Rajasthan. All injured passengers were quickly shifted to nearby hospitals, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Authorities confirmed that the condition of several injured passengers remains serious.

Mathura Rural Superintendent of Police Suresh Chandra Rawat stated that the trailer was travelling in the third lane of the Yamuna Expressway when the speeding Volvo bus carrying approximately 65 passengers rammed into it from behind. He said the police received information about the accident at around 3:35 a.m. and immediately initiated rescue measures.

To ensure rapid medical assistance, the district administration created a dedicated "green corridor" between the accident site and the hospitals, allowing ambulances to transport the injured without delay. Officials said this helped speed up emergency treatment for those critically injured in the collision.

The police, four passengers lost their lives in the accident, while 19 others remain admitted to hospital for treatment. Senior administrative officials, police personnel, and emergency response teams continue to remain at the accident site as the investigation into the cause of the crash progresses.

Authorities are examining all aspects of the incident, including the speed of the bus and road conditions at the time of the collision. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal accident on the Yamuna Expressway.
