IIE DIGITAL DESK : Chennai, 6 May: The Tamil Nadu Assembly election results, the Indian National Congress has announced conditional support for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to help facilitate the formation of a government in the state amid an uncertain political equation.

The announcement comes as post-election dynamics in Tamil Nadu have created a situation where no clear and stable majority arrangement has emerged, prompting discussions among major political stakeholders.

Girish Chodankar, in-charge of Tamil Nadu affairs for the All India Congress Committee (AICC), stated that the people of the state have expressed a mandate in favour of a secular and development-oriented government. Respecting this mandate, the Congress has decided to extend support to a TVK-led government under specific conditions.

However, he clarified that the support is not unconditional. The Congress emphasized that no communal or constitutionally opposed forces will be allowed to become part of the proposed alliance. The party underlined that only those political groups committed to constitutional values and social justice will be acceptable within the governing framework.

Chodankar further stated that the political alignment is aimed at continuing the legacy of progressive leadership in Tamil Nadu, drawing inspiration from former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj’s developmental governance model, Periyar’s principles of social justice, and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s constitutional vision.

The Congress also indicated that this understanding may extend beyond government formation and could influence cooperation in upcoming local body elections, as well as future Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha polls, depending on political circumstances.

The development marks an important shift in Tamil Nadu’s post-election political landscape, as parties begin negotiations to establish a stable administrative structure in the state.
