Senior party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy has resigned from the party as well as from his membership in the Rajya Sabha. The announcement was made by Roy from New Delhi on Monday morning, sending fresh ripples through West Bengal's political landscape.

Sukhendu Sekhar Roy launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress leadership, raising issues related to the alleged corruption controversies and the RG Kar hospital rape and murder case. His remarks have intensified political speculation about growing dissatisfaction within the party ranks.

The Roy, he had openly voiced his concerns regarding the RG Kar incident and had publicly spoken about the matter at a time when many others remained silent. He claimed that his stance on the issue led to his isolation within the party. Speaking about his decision, Roy said, “I had spoken publicly about the RG Kar issue. Because of that, I had been sidelined within the party for a long time. After the incident, attempts were being made to protect those responsible. It was then that I decided I would not remain in this party for much longer.”

The resignation is being viewed as a significant political development, particularly because Roy has been one of the prominent faces of the Trinamool Congress in Parliament. His departure comes at a time when opposition parties and political observers are closely monitoring developments within the ruling party in West Bengal.

Political speculation has also intensified around Rajya Sabha MP Koel Mallick. Reports and political discussions have suggested that she too could consider leaving the party. However, no official announcement or confirmation has been made by her regarding any such move.

The twin developments have fueled debate over the state of affairs within the Trinamool Congress, with opposition parties likely to use the resignation as evidence of internal unrest. The party leadership has yet to issue a detailed response to Roy’s allegations and resignation.
