IIE DIGITAL DESK : New Delhi, May 26: The persistent spell of scorching heat continues to grip the national capital, with hot and dry “loo” winds blowing across Delhi for the past several days. The intensity of the heat shows no sign of easing, as temperatures remain stubbornly high and daily life has been severely disrupted. The blistering conditions have also left large parts of central and north-west India struggling under an extended heatwave.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), the ongoing heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to continue for the next four to five days over central and north-west India, while eastern parts of the country may also experience similar conditions for the next three to four days. The weather agency has warned that the combination of high daytime temperatures and dry winds could further worsen the situation in several regions.

Delhi, along with Punjab, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh, is expected to remain under intense heat conditions in the coming days. Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra are also forecast to continue experiencing extreme temperatures, with little immediate relief in sight. The prolonged heatwave has raised concerns about health risks, especially for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children and outdoor workers.

Even hilly regions, which are usually known for milder weather during this time of year, are not expected to be spared. The IMD has indicated that higher-than-normal temperatures are likely in Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh as well, adding to the widespread nature of the current heat spell.

The weather department has advised people to take necessary precautions, including maintaining adequate hydration and avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours. Authorities have also urged citizens to remain cautious as the heatwave continues to impact large parts of the country.
