IIE DIGITAL DESK : Shimla, March 18: Himachal Pradesh continues to reel under persistent rainfall and fresh snowfall, with several regions witnessing a sharp drop in temperature and increasing cold conditions. The picturesque Solang Valley in Kullu district has been blanketed under a thick layer of snow, transforming the landscape into a winter spectacle while also raising concerns over weather-related disruptions.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the current spell of rain and snowfall is expected to persist across the state over the next few days. Authorities have issued orange and yellow alerts in multiple districts, warning residents about the possibility of intense weather activity, including thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds.

An orange alert has been specifically issued for Shimla district, Kullu district, and Mandi district, where adverse weather conditions are likely to be more severe. These regions may experience heavy rainfall accompanied by hailstorms and strong winds, potentially affecting transportation, agriculture, and daily life.

The weather department further stated that similar warnings have been extended to 10 districts across the state, excluding Kinnaur district and Lahaul and Spiti district, from March 20 onward. The widespread alerts highlight the scale of the ongoing weather system impacting Himachal Pradesh.

Forecasts indicate that rain and snowfall activity is likely to continue across the state until March 23. However, some relief may be on the horizon for residents in the lower hills and plains, where weather conditions are expected to gradually improve after that date. On March 22 and 23, the plains are likely to experience relatively dry weather, offering a temporary respite from the ongoing wet spell.

The continuous precipitation has already led to a noticeable drop in temperatures across various districts, intensifying the cold conditions. Authorities have advised residents and tourists to remain cautious, particularly in higher altitude areas where snowfall could disrupt road connectivity and increase the risk of accidents.

The prolonged spell of rain and snow has brought both scenic beauty and practical challenges to Himachal Pradesh, as the state braces for a few more days of unsettled weather before gradual improvement sets in.
