IIE DIGITAL DESK : India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited South Korea and held a bilateral meeting in Seoul with South Korea’s Defence Minister Ahn Gyu-back. The meeting focused on strengthening strategic defence cooperation between the two countries and enhancing collaboration in areas of shared interest, including regional peace, stability, and emerging security challenges.

The discussions, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the India–South Korea strategic partnership. Key topics included expanding defence technology cooperation, improving interoperability, and increasing coordination on regional and global security issues. The ministers also emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region through closer bilateral engagement.

The visit was the exchange of an agreement related to the expansion of cyber cooperation in the defence sector between India and South Korea. This step is expected to strengthen collaboration in cybersecurity, a rapidly growing area of strategic importance for both nations.

Rajnath Singh noted that the discussions were productive and expressed optimism about further enhancing defence ties between the two countries. He also stated his eagerness to strengthen the Special Strategic Partnership between India and South Korea in the coming years.

The Defence Minister paid tribute at a national cemetery in South Korea, where he laid a wreath in honour of soldiers who sacrificed their lives in service of the nation. He expressed deep respect for the bravery and dedication of the fallen soldiers.

The visit reflects India’s continued efforts to expand defence diplomacy and build stronger international partnerships, particularly with key Indo-Pacific partners like South Korea.
