The first major showers of the season brought temporary relief from the heat but also caused waterlogging in several parts of Mumbai. Many roads were submerged due to heavy rainfall, leading to traffic disruptions across different areas of the city. Commuters faced considerable inconvenience as slow-moving vehicles and flooded stretches affected normal movement during the morning hours.
Since Monday morning, Mumbai and its surrounding regions have been experiencing rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The changing weather conditions indicate that the city is moving closer to the official onset of the southwest monsoon.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that it will officially announce the arrival of the monsoon in Mumbai once all the necessary atmospheric conditions required for its onset are fulfilled. Until then, the weather department has predicted continued chances of thunderstorms and rainfall in the city over the coming days.
The pre-monsoon showers have brought much-needed relief to residents of Mumbai, but the heavy rain has also highlighted the challenges of waterlogging and traffic congestion that frequently accompany the arrival of the monsoon season in the country’s financial hub.
