IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Auckland, June 16: The Indian women’s hockey team secured their place in the semifinals of the FIH Women’s Nations Cup after defeating Japan 2–1 in their second Pool A match at the North Harbour National Hockey Centre in Auckland on Tuesday.

Captain and Player of the Match Salima Tete and forward Lalremsiami scored the two goals for India, while Hiramitsu Ai netted the lone goal for Japan. The match also turned memorable for midfielder Jyoti, who marked her 100th senior international appearance in this game.

With this victory, unbeaten India moved to the top of Pool A with six points, ahead of the United States and Japan.

Final Pool A match of the tournament, India will face Uruguay on June 18 at 4:15 AM IST. Meanwhile, Japan and the United States will compete for the second semifinal spot from the group, keeping the race alive for qualification.
