IIE DIGITAL DESK ;  June 8: New Zealand have dropped from second to fourth place in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 standings following their defeat to England in the first Test at Lord’s. The Kiwis suffered a 115-run loss to England, a result that significantly impacted their position in the points table. Despite securing a valuable victory, England remain in seventh place in the standings.

The Lord’s Test proved to be a crucial contest in the race for WTC final qualification. England's victory earned them important championship points and improved their points percentage to 37.88. However, the gain was not enough to lift them from seventh position due to their overall record in the current cycle. England have now registered four wins, six defeats, and one draw from 11 matches.

New Zealand, the defeat resulted in a notable decline in the standings. After beginning the match in second place, they slipped to fourth position with a points percentage of 58.33. The Black Caps have recorded two wins, one defeat, and one draw from four matches in the current WTC cycle.

The top of the table, Australia continue to dominate the standings with 84 points from eight matches and an impressive points percentage of 87.50. They are followed by South Africa in second place with a points percentage of 75.00. Sri Lanka occupy third position with a points percentage of 66.67 after a strong start to their campaign.

Meanwhile, India remain in sixth place in the WTC standings. India have accumulated 52 points from nine matches, recording four wins, four defeats, and one draw, giving them a points percentage of 48.15. The team will be looking to improve its position as the championship cycle progresses.
