IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Arambagh | July 18 : The long-standing local dispute in Kumarganj under Goghat-II Block of Hooghly district took a new turn on Saturday after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers handed over a shop to its alleged original owner. The allegations made by BJP leaders, the tribal resident had been running his business from the shop before 2011 and depended on it to support his family's livelihood. They claimed that after the change in political circumstances in the state, local Trinamool Congress leaders allegedly took possession of the shop and converted it into a party office without the consent of the owner.

The BJP further alleged that the shop owner repeatedly approached several Trinamool Congress leaders over the years seeking the return of his property but received no relief. According to the party, the owner had also informed BJP leaders about the matter when the party was in the opposition. However, they claimed that no effective action could be taken at the time because of the influence of the then ruling party.

The development has triggered considerable political discussion in the area, with supporters of both parties closely watching the incident. BJP leaders described the restoration of the shop as more than the return of a piece of property, calling it a symbol of justice against what they alleged was years of political occupation and misuse of power.

The BJP, the incident reflects its commitment to protecting the rights of ordinary citizens and restoring properties that were allegedly occupied for political purposes. Party leaders said similar complaints from residents would also be examined if brought before them.

The allegations made by the BJP regarding the alleged occupation of the shop and its use as a Trinamool Congress office have not been independently verified.

The filing of this report, the Trinamool Congress had not issued any official response to the allegations or the BJP's claims regarding the ownership and occupation of the shop.
