Abhishek's plea rejected again; High Court says 'no' to urgent hearing.

IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata, June 29: The Calcutta High Court on Monday once again rejected Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee's request for an urgent hearing in connection with his plea seeking permission to travel abroad for medical treatment. The court made it clear that the matter would be heard only in accordance with the normal judicial process and the existing cause list.

Abhishek Banerjee has sought permission to travel overseas for treatment related to an eye condition. In view of the medical urgency claimed by the petitioner, his legal team had requested that the matter be taken up on an expedited basis. However, the High Court declined to grant any special priority to the case.

This is the second time that the court has refused to entertain the plea for an urgent hearing. Last Tuesday, Abhishek Banerjee's counsel had also mentioned the matter before the High Court and appealed for an early hearing, citing the need for medical treatment abroad. That request was similarly rejected by the court.

Monday, the Trinamool Congress leader once again approached the Bench of Justice Sougata Bhattacharyya. Representing Banerjee, advocate Ayan Bhattacharya drew the court's attention to the urgency of the matter and reiterated the request for an expedited hearing.

Justice Sougata Bhattacharyya, however, declined the plea and observed that the matter would be taken up strictly according to the scheduled listing of cases. The court stated that no exception would be made and that the petition would be heard only when it appears in the regular course of proceedings.

The latest rejection, Abhishek Banerjee will have to wait for the case to come up as per the High Court's roster before any decision can be taken on his request related to foreign travel for eye treatment. The court's order underscores its position that the matter will proceed through the established judicial process without any deviation from the normal listing procedure.
