IIE DIGITAL DESK : The significant move to address the escalating traffic congestion in Salt Lake's Sector V, the Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA) has unveiled plans to construct a second multi-level parking plaza. This initiative aims to streamline traffic flow and enhance emergency response capabilities in the region.

The proposed parking facility will be situated on approximately one acre (32 cottahs) of land near Philips More, a pivotal intersection in Sector V. Designed to accommodate over 700 vehicles, the new plaza is expected to alleviate the burden on existing infrastructure and improve overall traffic conditions. The project is slated for completion by the end of 2026.

Currently, the area is served by an eight-storey parking plaza located on plot AQ 11, which provides space for around 600 cars and two-wheelers. However, with the increasing number of vehicles in the region, this facility has become insufficient to meet the demand. The addition of the new parking plaza is anticipated to ease the burden on existing infrastructure and improve overall traffic conditions.

With the parking facility, NDITA is collaborating with RITES Ltd., a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, to develop a comprehensive traffic dispersal plan for Sector V. This plan will include recommendations for infrastructural improvements such as demarcating parking bays, establishing no-parking zones, and integrating sustainable transportation options like electric vehicles, e-bikes, and public bicycles. The aim is to create a more organized and efficient traffic system that caters to the needs of both commuters and residents.

The introduction of a vehicle-free pedestrian plaza along a key stretch in Sector V further complements these efforts. This initiative not only enhances pedestrian safety but also promotes a more walkable and environmentally friendly urban space.

As the project progresses, NDITA will continue to engage with stakeholders and the public to ensure that the developments align with the community's needs and contribute to the sustainable growth of Sector V.
