IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Malda, June 20: Tension flared along the India-Bangladesh border on Saturday at the Sukhdebpur border area under Baishnabnagar Police Station in Malda district. According to local sources, several Bangladeshi nationals allegedly entered Indian territory taking advantage of the unfenced stretch of the international border. After detaining them, the Border Security Force (BSF) initiated steps to send them back to Bangladesh.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) objected to the move, leading to a tense situation between the border guarding forces of the two neighbouring countries. The incident has created an atmosphere of anxiety and concern among residents of the border region.

Sources stated that apart from BGB personnel, a large number of Bangladeshi citizens have gathered on the other side of the border following the development. Considering the sensitivity of the situation and to avoid any untoward incident, the BSF has prohibited Indian civilians from approaching the border area.

Precautionary measure, red flags have been hoisted in the border region, indicating the highest level of alert. The entire situation remains under close observation by senior BSF officials, and additional security personnel have reportedly been deployed to strengthen vigilance along the international border.

The incident has once again highlighted the challenges faced by security forces in managing unfenced stretches of the India-Bangladesh border, where illegal crossings and jurisdictional disputes can quickly lead to diplomatic and security concerns.

No official statement has been issued so far by either the BSF or the BGB regarding the incident. Authorities from both sides are closely monitoring the situation as efforts continue to maintain peace and prevent any further escalation along the sensitive border area.
