Endangered Tokay Gecko Rescued Through Hingalganj Police Efforts, Handed Over to Forest Department

IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Hingalganj, June 2: Relief has returned to the area following the rescue of an endangered Tokay Gecko, thanks to the efforts of Hingalganj Police Station in North 24 Parganas. Locals spotted this rare reptile at the house of Mohiuddin Gazi in North Baltala village, Hingalganj. Upon being informed, the police promptly arrived at the scene.

Led by Officer-in-Charge Rahul Halder, the police team safely rescued the gecko. On Tuesday, it was handed over to officials of the Rampur Forest Department in North 24 Parganas. According to forest department sources, the rescued gecko is approximately one to one and a half feet in length and weighs around 200 to 250 grams.

Local resident Jahangir Sardar said that the Hingalganj police acted quickly to ensure the safety of this endangered species and subsequently handed it over to the forest department. Swapon Gayen, an official of the Rampur Forest Department, stated that after receiving the news, they reached the location, took custody of the gecko, and took the necessary measures.

The local community praised the efforts of Hingalganj police and forest department officials for safely rescuing this rare species and ensuring it was handed over to the appropriate authorities.
