IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Nadia | June 23, 2026 : Police have recovered more than three kilograms of gold during a late-night search operation at the residence of a Trinamool Congress leader in West Bengal’s Nadia district. Investigators suspect that the recovered gold may have links to former Trinamool Congress MLA Sabyasachi Dutta, who was recently arrested in connection with an alleged extortion case.

Bidhannagar Police conducted the search operation on Monday night at the residence of Tina Bhowmik Saha in Karimpur, Nadia. The raid was carried out with the arrested former legislator accompanying the police team as investigators attempted to trace assets and gather evidence related to the case.

Officers reportedly recovered more than three kilograms of gold from the premises. Preliminary findings have led investigators to believe that there may be a connection between the seized gold and the accused former MLA. Authorities are now examining how the gold was acquired, when it was purchased, and whether its source can be linked to the alleged proceeds of extortion or any other financial irregularities.

Police officials have not yet reached a final conclusion regarding the origin of the gold, but investigators are scrutinizing financial records and other evidence to determine whether the recovered valuables were obtained through legitimate means. The possibility of a connection between the alleged extortion funds and the gold purchase is also being thoroughly examined as part of the broader investigation.

The search operation took place at the residence located in the Kishorepur area of Karimpur, which is reported to be the ancestral home of Tina Bhowmik Saha, a member of the Nadia Zilla Parishad and a local Trinamool Congress leader. Officers from Karimpur Police Station assisted the Bidhannagar Police team during the raid.

The time of the search, neither Tina Bhowmik Saha nor her husband, Niloy Bhowmik, was reportedly present at the house. Family members informed the police that the couple was in Kolkata. Speaking to local media, Archana Bhowmik, Tina’s mother-in-law, stated that a police team arrived at the residence around 3 a.m. accompanied by Sabyasachi Dutta. She said that the officers took away some gold ornaments during the operation and conducted a detailed search of the property.

The police said that the former Rajarhat-New Town MLA was taken from custody to Karimpur as part of the ongoing probe. The investigators are attempting to establish whether there were any financial transactions, business dealings, or asset transfers involving individuals connected to the case.

The recovery of such a substantial quantity of gold has added a new dimension to the investigation and is expected to intensify scrutiny of financial links connected to the accused. Authorities are likely to continue questioning relevant individuals and examining documentary evidence in the coming days.

The case has generated considerable political attention, as it involves prominent figures associated with the ruling Trinamool Congress. While investigators continue to gather evidence, officials have emphasized that the inquiry remains ongoing and that all aspects of the recovered assets will be examined before any conclusions are drawn.

With more than three kilograms of gold now under police scrutiny, the investigation is entering a crucial phase, and authorities are expected to focus on tracing the source of the valuables and determining whether they are connected to the alleged extortion network that led to the arrest of Sabyasachi Dutta.
