Public Anger Erupts in Sonarpur After Recovery of Government Materials from House and Office

IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Sonarpur, June 11: Ward No. 23 of Rajpur-Sonarpur Municipality after a large quantity of government and relief materials were recovered from a residential house and an office, triggering widespread protests and anger among local residents.

The recovery, tension escalated in the area as a section of locals staged demonstrations, raising slogans of “thief, thief” and expressing strong outrage over the alleged misuse of public resources. In some instances, reports also suggested that eggs were thrown during the protest, further intensifying the situation on the ground.

The recovered items included street lights, tarpaulin sheets, cement bags, buckets, bleaching powder, and several other government and relief supplies. Authorities suspect that the materials were being prepared for illegal transfer or diversion. Acting on information, police reached the spot and seized all recovered items for further investigation.

The incident has brought Ward No. 23 into the spotlight, where the current councillor is Chhanda Ghoshal. Previously, the ward was represented by her husband, Soumen Mohan Ghoshal, which has added a political dimension to the controversy. The situation has sparked widespread criticism and anger among residents, who are demanding accountability and transparency.

Local BJP leaders and residents have alleged that government materials had been stored for a long period without being distributed to rightful beneficiaries. They further raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the implementation of development projects and welfare schemes in the area.

Councillor Chhanda Ghoshal has so far declined to comment on the matter. Police officials have stated that an investigation is underway to determine whether the recovered items are indeed government property and how they were stored at the location in question.

Currently examining all aspects of the case, including possible misuse of public resources and involvement of any individuals in the alleged diversion of relief materials. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
