IIE DIGITAL DESK; Washington, May 30: US President Donald Trump has taken a hardline stance on a potential agreement with Iran, insisting that no deal will be signed unless his “red line” conditions are fully met. According to White House sources, a high-level two-hour meeting in the Situation Room ended without any breakthrough on the proposed agreement.

White House official told reporters that President Trump will only agree to a deal that protects American interests and strictly adheres to his defined boundaries. The official further emphasized Trump’s position that Iran must never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons.

Trump also outlined key conditions for any agreement on his social media platform Truth Social. He reportedly demanded that Iran permanently shut down its nuclear weapons program, fully open the Strait of Hormuz for international shipping, remove any naval mines placed in the region, and hand over its highly enriched uranium stockpile to the United States for destruction.

The President added that no financial transactions would be part of the proposed deal at this stage, though he claimed that some secondary issues had already seen partial agreement. However, major sticking points remain unresolved.

The Iranian side, officials have confirmed that no final agreement has been reached. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that while exchanges and discussions are ongoing, there is still no conclusive deal in place.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi indicated that discussions are continuing at the administrative level regarding the Strait of Hormuz, but stressed that any decision would be based on Iran’s sovereign rights. Tehran has also strongly opposed US demands regarding control over the strategic waterway.

Iran’s parliamentary National Security Committee chief Ebrahim Azizi further stated that Tehran will never give up its uranium rights or its stockpile, reinforcing the country’s firm negotiating position. He also reiterated Iran’s intention to maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz.

Divisions within the US administration over the approach to Iran reportedly persist, with both diplomatic engagement and military pressure being pursued simultaneously. Sanctions and military preparedness measures remain in place alongside ongoing negotiations.

The situation traces back to 2018 when Trump withdrew the United States from the Obama-era Iran nuclear deal, calling it “one-sided and disastrous.” Since then, efforts to revive or replace the agreement have remained uncertain, with the latest talks once again ending without resolution amid deep disagreements on core issues.
