IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Kolkata | June 23, 2026 : Political tensions in West Bengal intensified on Tuesday after senior BJP leader and Union Minister Dilip Ghosh launched a sharp attack on the ruling All India Trinamool Congress, describing it as a “drama troupe” amid the controversy surrounding the party’s newly constituted national executive committee.

The remarks came in the wake of developments within the Trinamool Congress that sparked fresh debate over the party’s organizational structure and internal dynamics. According to political observers, the formation of the new national committee has generated discussions regarding the roles and positions of several senior leaders. The issue gained attention after the appointment of Arup Roy, the MLA from Howrah Madhya constituency, as the chairman of the party’s newly formed national committee.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday morning, Dilip Ghosh took a sarcastic swipe at the ruling party and questioned the circumstances surrounding the appointment and subsequent political reactions within the organization. He suggested that the developments reflected ongoing internal theatrics rather than serious political decision-making.

“Who asked them to make him the chairperson in the first place, and who asked them to remove him?” Ghosh remarked while addressing the media. He claimed that such episodes have become a recurring feature of the Trinamool Congress and argued that the party thrives on political drama. Continuing his criticism, he said that he had often referred to the Trinamool Congress as a “circus party,” alleging that its internal affairs hold little significance either for the people of Bengal or for the opposition.

The BJP leader’s comments come at a time when political competition between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress remains intense, with both parties frequently targeting each other over governance, organizational issues, and policy decisions.

Ghosh also responded to criticism from Trinamool leaders regarding the reduction in allocations for the Minority Affairs Department. The ruling party had questioned the government’s approach to minority welfare, arguing that reduced allocations could affect various developmental initiatives aimed at minority communities.

Rejecting the criticism, Ghosh asserted that the government does not function as a “minority government” but rather works for all sections of society. Referring to the slogan “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” he emphasized that development and welfare initiatives are intended to benefit every citizen irrespective of community or background.

Ghosh further alleged that the Trinamool Congress has attempted to use minority issues for political purposes. He urged members of the Muslim community to remain cautious of what he described as corrupt political elements and reiterated that the government’s policies are designed to ensure inclusive development across all communities.

The exchange has added another chapter to the ongoing political confrontation in West Bengal, where both the BJP and the Trinamool Congress continue to engage in sharp rhetoric over governance, organizational matters, and public policy. With political activity expected to intensify in the coming months, statements from leaders on both sides are likely to keep fueling debate across the state's political landscape.

The latest controversy surrounding the Trinamool Congress’ organizational restructuring and the subsequent remarks by Dilip Ghosh have once again brought internal party developments and broader political rivalries into the spotlight, underscoring the highly charged nature of West Bengal’s political environment.
