Rather than searching for an isolated or completely silent neighbourhood, the mother-daughter duo deliberately chose a house close to the sea. Neena revealed that the beach was only about a minute away, making the location particularly appealing to her.

Masaba also explained that the surrounding bustle was part of the attraction. Instead of being put off by the noise and activity around the house, they actually embraced it while selecting the property. The result is an interesting contrast: the exterior surroundings may be lively and noisy, but the interior of the house has a distinctly calm, warm and inviting atmosphere.

The home’s décor reflects a classic aesthetic rather than an aggressively modern or excessively luxurious design. Muted wall colours provide a restrained backdrop, while carefully selected artwork introduces vibrant bursts of colour. Masaba, known for her design sensibility, has played an important role in creating this balance. She explained that colour was introduced into the home through distinctive cushion covers and carefully chosen decorative pieces. Instead of filling every corner with accessories, the family opted for selected objects that could make an impact while allowing the rooms to retain a sense of openness.

The living room is one of the most memorable spaces in the house. A large powder-blue sofa dominates the room, offering enough seating for family members and guests. It is also one of Neena Gupta’s favourite places in the home. The actor has spoken about spending time there reading books and scripts and enjoying her morning tea.

The room is filled with objects that carry personal and artistic significance. A wooden art piece occupies an important place in the living area. Originally finished in dark wood, the piece was given a fresh white finish after Masaba had it painted. Nearby sits a paintbrush gifted to Neena by legendary Indian artist M.F. Husain. The dining area continues the home’s understated design language. White and brown wooden furniture brings together earthy tones while also providing practical storage. Hanging beside the dining table is a striking painting by artist Lalita Lajmi, which holds particular significance for Neena.

The actor described the artwork as the first expensive painting she purchased from Lajmi and said she was proud of owning it. The painting therefore represents more than a decorative addition to the dining space; it is also a reminder of Neena’s personal appreciation for art and the memories associated with building her home.

The mother-daughter duo also revealed their affection for old furniture. Rather than always purchasing new pieces, they enjoy finding furniture in markets and giving it a new appearance by painting it white.
