IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Barasat, May 8 : The development amid post-election political tensions in West Bengal, a Trinamool Congress party office in Barasat’s Ward 16 was returned to the ruling party by BJP leadership on Friday, marking a rare gesture aimed at restoring calm in the area.

The dispute had erupted shortly after the announcement of election results, when a group of BJP workers allegedly took control of a TMC party office located near Bidhan Market in Ward 16 of Barasat Municipality. Following the takeover, BJP flags and banners were reportedly put up at the premises, triggering sharp political reactions and tension in the locality.

The situation escalated into a local flashpoint, with supporters of both parties engaging in verbal exchanges over the ownership of the office. However, the matter took a conciliatory turn on Friday when the BJP’s district president for Barasat personally visited the site and formally handed over the office back to TMC councillor Nilima Mandal.

The BJP district president made an appeal for peace and emphasized that the party does not support the forcible occupation of any political office. He stated that maintaining a democratic and peaceful environment in Barasat city remains a priority for his organisation.

He also issued a cautionary message to BJP workers and supporters, urging them to refrain from engaging in any activities that could escalate political tensions in the region. His remarks were interpreted as an attempt to de-escalate the situation and prevent further confrontation between party cadres.

Local sources reported that the tension in the area gradually eased, and normalcy began to return. Residents expressed relief over the resolution of the issue, noting that sustained political calm is essential for maintaining civic harmony in the region.

The incident highlights the sensitive political climate in several parts of West Bengal following the elections, where localized disputes have occasionally flared up but are now being addressed through leadership-level interventions from both sides.
