IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Panskura, June 3: Political tension erupted in Panskura after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest in front of the residence of Pampa Santra Raut, the chairperson of the Panskura Panchayat Samiti, demanding an investigation into the source of her family’s alleged vast wealth.

The protest took place on Wednesday in the Mechogram area of Panskura in East Midnapore, directly outside the residence of Pampa Santra Raut. The demonstration quickly escalated into a politically charged situation, drawing attention from local residents and triggering heated political discussions in the region.

The BJP alleged that Pampa Santra Raut and her husband, Amit Raut, have experienced a sharp and unusually rapid increase in their assets over a short period of time. According to sections of local residents, Amit Raut was once associated with left-wing politics but later joined the Trinamool Congress. After switching allegiance, he reportedly became closely linked with influential political circles and allegedly saw significant financial growth through land transactions and various business activities.

The BJP further claimed that multiple properties, including plots of land along the national highway, a palatial residence, a temple, and other assets, should be thoroughly investigated to determine their source. The protesters demanded a transparent disclosure of income and expenditure details, along with an impartial probe into the matter.

Neither Pampa Santra Raut nor her family has issued any response regarding these allegations so far. The authenticity of the claims could not be independently verified. Authorities have also not released any official statement on the incident yet.

The situation has intensified political discourse in the area, with tensions remaining high following the protest.
