IIE DIGITAL DESK ; Hooghly, June 6: Purshura Police have arrested Mofizul Mondal, popularly known as Mofi, the Trinamool Congress regional president of Srirampur under the Purshura Assembly constituency, in connection with multiple serious criminal cases. He was arrested late on Friday night from the Dhaniakhali area following a police operation.

Police sources on Saturday, several cases had been registered against him on charges including post-election violence following the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, alleged involvement in acts of intimidation and terror, crimes against women, and unlawful possession and movement with firearms. Police claimed that his activities had been under surveillance for a considerable period.

Police conducted a raid and detained him. Following his arrest, he was taken to Purshura Police Station, where preliminary questioning was carried out. On Saturday morning, he was produced before the Arambagh Sub-Divisional Court under tight security arrangements.

Police sources indicated that investigators may seek police custody in order to gather further information related to the cases and examine the accused’s alleged links to the various charges. Officials have already begun collecting relevant documents, records, and other evidence connected to the ongoing investigations.

The arrest has generated considerable discussion in political circles across the region. However, no official statement has yet been issued by the Trinamool Congress regarding the arrest of the regional party leader.

Police have stated that all allegations will be thoroughly verified and appropriate legal action will be taken in accordance with the law. Further proceedings will be conducted based on the directions of the court.
