IIE DIGITAL DESK : West Bengal mourns the loss of one of its most respected and seasoned political figures as veteran leader Abdur Razzak Mollah passed away at the age of 80. The senior politician, known for his sharp intellect, commitment to grassroots politics, and unwavering dedication to the people of Bengal, breathed his last in a Kolkata hospital after a prolonged illness.

A prominent face in West Bengal's political landscape for over four decades, Abdur Razzak Mollah began his career with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and served as a legislator for 10 consecutive terms. His contributions as the Minister for Land Reforms in the Left Front government were widely recognized and left a lasting impact on the state's rural and agrarian landscape.

Following his departure from CPI(M), Mollah later joined the All India Secular Front (AISF), continuing to advocate for the rights of marginalized communities until his final years. His voice remained firm on issues of social justice, minority rights, and rural development.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her deep sorrow over the veteran leader’s passing, calling it an "irreplaceable void in Bengal’s political and social spheres." She praised his decades-long service to the people and conveyed her condolences to his family and supporters.

The political fraternity, cutting across party lines, has come together to pay homage to the late leader. Flags were flown at half-mast in several government buildings, and a state funeral is expected to be organized in his honor.
