
IIE DIGITAL DESK : Kolkata, May 9: West Bengal observed Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary with widespread cultural celebrations, paying heartfelt tribute to the world-renowned poet, philosopher, and Nobel laureate through music, dance, poetry recitations, and community gatherings.
The state, people marked the occasion with great enthusiasm, participating in early morning processions, cultural programmes, and traditional “Prabhat Pheris” where groups sang Rabindra Sangeet while walking through neighbourhoods. The atmosphere remained deeply festive yet reverential, as thousands joined in remembering Tagore’s contribution to literature, art, and human thought.
Jorasanko Thakur Bari, the ancestral home of Rabindranath Tagore in Kolkata, special commemorative programmes were organised as part of the annual observance of “Kobi Pronam.” The historic residence witnessed a steady flow of visitors, artists, and cultural enthusiasts paying floral tributes and participating in various artistic presentations dedicated to the poet.
The Rabindra Bharati University also hosted a dedicated celebration programme, featuring floral offerings at the rooms associated with Tagore’s birth and death. The event included performances of Rabindra Sangeet, readings of his literary works, and cultural recitations that highlighted his philosophical and artistic legacy.
Institutions, cultural organisations, and educational bodies across Bengal joined the celebrations, showcasing dance dramas, poetry recitals, and musical renditions inspired by Tagore’s timeless creations. The day served as a reminder of his enduring influence on Bengali culture and global literature, with his ideals continuing to inspire generations.
