IIE DIGITAL DESK : West Bengal is experiencing significant weather variations this week, with thunderstorms and fluctuating temperatures affecting various regions. The Alipore Meteorological Department forecasts that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely to occur across most districts, leading to temporary relief from the prevailing heat. However, the respite may be short-lived as temperatures are expected to rise again following these weather events.
In Kolkata, the early morning temperature was recorded at 27.2°C, slightly above the seasonal average. The daytime temperature is anticipated to reach around 34.2°C, with a possibility of further decrease in the coming days. Despite the brief cooling effect of the thunderstorms, both day and night temperatures are projected to remain marginally higher than usual.
In the northern regions of the state, including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Alipurduar, the likelihood of thunderstorms persists throughout the week. The weather department has issued yellow alerts for Friday and Saturday, indicating the potential for severe weather conditions in these areas.
Conversely, southern West Bengal, including Kolkata, is not expected to witness significant rainfall in the immediate future. While the mornings and evenings may offer some comfort, the afternoons are likely to remain warm, with temperatures climbing as the day progresses. The forecast suggests that Kolkata's temperature could reach up to 34°C this week, with some districts experiencing highs between 37°C and 38°C.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions during the warmer parts of the day. Keeping abreast of the latest weather updates will be crucial for planning daily activities and ensuring safety.
