IIE Digital Desk: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating alleged mishandling of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has found "protocols that suggest multiple instances of cash misused. But the findings have now been handed to a committee representing the Uttar Pradesh government which has expressed concerns about security and management of temple funds.
The SIT conducted an examination of CCTV footage, financial records, trust documents and witness statements along with operational guidelines related to the process of counting donations. According to investors, the investigation reportedly identified nearly 70 cases where cash had been stolen over several weeks. The alleged crime may have involved six or more people.
The report stated that surveillance footage showed workers allegedly concealing money in their shoes, clothing, and personal items while handling donations. Indications that some staff members may have assisted in concealing these activities raised concerns about a coordinated act of misconduct within the system. The SIT also highlighted weaknesses in the temple's security measures. According to reports, staff members who were responsible for counting donations were not adequately protected during their time at the donation center. Also, investigators found flaws in the way they monitored, supervised and enforced standard security procedures during surveillance. The alleged mutual funds are thought to have been unnoticed for an extended period, possibly due to these gaps.
Besides the purported theft, the report cast doubt on administrative oversight and internal controls. The investigators found that multiple financial protections were either not properly enforced or inconsistent. These findings imply that stricter controls may have helped prevent or detect these irregularities earlier.
The SIT report is just the tip of the iceberg, officials have said.'". The report will be accompanied by further examination of financial transactions, CCTV footage and other evidence before it is finalised. Police will also assess the scale of alleged abuse and determine whether others were involved. The revelations have been widely reported because of the significance of Ram Temple, which receives millions in donations from devotees across India. This is an important development for the organization. The case has renewed the debate about transparency and accountability, as well as the need for strict measures to ensure secure donations.
The investigation is expected to be conducted fairly and thoroughly, according to authorities.' The responsibility for any wrongdoing lies with those who are found responsible. The SIT is expected to recommend changes in security and financial management practices to enhance donor protection while also enhancing public faith.
