The Alipore Meteorological Department, the wet weather pattern is likely to persist until Monday, bringing intermittent showers and gusty winds to all districts of South Bengal. Despite the rainfall, meteorologists do not expect any significant change in temperature levels during this period.
The weather office has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by rain across Kolkata and surrounding districts, with localized disturbances likely to affect daily life in several areas. While widespread heavy rainfall is not expected in South Bengal, authorities have issued yellow alerts for multiple districts due to the possibility of thunderstorms and moderate rainfall.
The districts placed under yellow alert include North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia. Weather officials have warned that these regions could experience sudden thunderstorms, lightning activity, and strong gusty winds over the next few days.
Thursday, yellow alerts remain in effect for Purulia, Bankura, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, and Murshidabad, where adverse weather conditions are expected to continue. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during periods of intense thunderstorms and avoid taking shelter under isolated trees or near vulnerable structures during lightning activity.
Meteorologists have also expressed concern about conditions over the Bay of Bengal. Wind speeds over the sea are expected to reach up to 60 kilometers per hour, creating potentially dangerous conditions for marine activities. As a precautionary measure, fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the sea during the next 24 hours. Authorities are closely monitoring developments and may issue further advisories depending on weather conditions.
South Bengal is expected to witness intermittent rain and thunderstorms, North Bengal faces the prospect of a more prolonged and severe spell of wet weather.
